The Movie ‘LASSO’ Whips Up Its Premiere

TCL Chinese 6 Theaters, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028

Hollywood, California  – “LASSO”, Directed by Evan Cecil, premiered last November 6, at the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028.

The Review:

Partly comedic but mostly slasher, fans of the indie horror genre will not be disappointed with director Evan Cecil’s, “Lasso.” Debuting on November 6th at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, ahead of its US release, and available for streaming now, the western-rodeo-thriller film, stars Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Lindsey Morgan (The 100), Karen Grassle (Little House on the Prairie) and Andrew Jacobs (Paranormal Activity) with a 97 minute running time.

The film centers around Kit (Lindsey Morgan) and Simon (Andrew Jacobs), two young tour leaders of an Active Senior Tour group out visiting a small town Rodeo festival located deep in the woods. Hardly any time builds up before the sun goes down and the murderous mayhem begins. Looks like some of the rodeo staff like to entertain themselves at night with a rodeo show of their own but instead of bulls, using animals of the two legged sort.

It quickly turns into a game of survival as the two tour leaders must now get their senior tourists and few unlucky stragglers to safely. As par for the course, of course, death and mayhem ensue and, to my surprise, it’s a non-stop wild ride to the end and what a satisfying end indeed. Kit and Simon make a great protagonist duo and although character development in the film is pretty scarce throughout, we do see these two become quite the hero and heroine up to the end.

The gore is somewhat pedestrian with obvious fake blood, flying body parts and impalement using barnyard tools more than I can count but as most of the film takes place at night, it was adequate and visceral. One thing quite unique about this slasher film was the use of “active retired” characters and to see what would become of them, no one is safe as evil does not discriminate. Death in this film, almost felt like a reference to the “Final Destination” films where you know death is coming but interesting to see how one meets their comical fate.

Kit and Simon join up with another group of pro-lifers, including a one-armed cowboy, the Rodeo queen, and a female bull rider. There are plenty of comedic moments in the film involving Simon and the one-armed cowboy and the film does have a great message of being grateful for the things you have. But as with these types of films, it does conclude with one epic final showdown.

Lasso won’t win any writing awards but will make fans of the horror genre cheer with plenty of gore and laughs.
